10| Each fused glass piece is
assembled by arranging individually cut pieces of glass on a kiln
shelf. They may be adorned with powdered glass, glass shards or
copper inclusions. The piece is then fired to 1500 degrees and
annealed at 960 degrees. Many pieces are fired a second time to create
additional decorative effects. Finally, plates and bowls are slumped
in a ceramic mold in an additional firing to 1250 degrees. Each
firing cycle takes 8 to 10 hours to complete.
Whether functional or decorative, fused glass art will enhance any home. Each unique piece is lead-free and completely safe for food. Hand washing is recommended, and as with any glassware, avoid rapid changes in temperature extremes.
